Who is Lisa?

Lisa McIntyre is the former President and current Treasurer of the Northville Board of Education, and a fierce advocate for students, families, and mental health. She’s running for State Representative for Michigan House District 22, (Northville, Plymouth, and western Livonia), because Michigan families deserve leaders who listen, lead with empathy, and solve problems.

As a mother of three, Lisa knows what it means to fight for a better future. On the Northville Board of Education, Lisa has delivered real results. She led efforts to stabilize the district after the pandemic, spearheaded school safety initiatives and an “away for the day” personal device policy for K-8 students, ensured students and staff had the support they needed, and kept the budget strong while improving the work experience for educators.

Under her leadership, Northville Public Schools continues to be one of Michigan’s top public school systems, because she knows great schools don’t happen by accident — they require planning, partnership, and leadership that puts people first.

Deep Roots and a Personal Mission

Lisa’s story starts in Indiana, where she grew up gardening and baking with her mom, visiting the library with her dad, and spending Sundays with her grandparents after church.

  • Her commitment to working families began with her grandfather, a hardworking metallurgist at International Harvester. He was part of the generation that built the American middle class after serving in World War II. During his career, he faced a severe battle with depression — a crisis that could have devastated any family. But because of his union-negotiated benefits, he had access to the quality care he needed to recover and return to the life he loved. Lisa saw how community support and quality care helped him find his way back. That experience planted the seed for her life’s work — and her belief that no one should struggle alone.

Choosing This Community

Thirteen years ago, Lisa and her husband chose to move to this district to raise their family, drawn by their family roots in the area, the welcoming community feel, and, above all, the reputation of our world-class schools.

  • Like so many of our neighbors, the McIntyres wanted a place where children can thrive in a safe, high-achieving environment. As a mom volunteering in schools and athletic groups, Lisa saw firsthand that many families were facing mental health challenges, and that access to high-quality, affordable care was not always easy, even in a community committed to giving every child the best opportunities. Since then, her work has been about protecting and strengthening the very things that brought her family here.

This isn’t just a campaign—it’s a reflection of what we believe in. We’re here to create work that matters, led by a shared commitment to quality & care.

A Career Rooted in Listening

Lisa was one of the first women in her family to attend college and continued on to have a 30-year career as a Licensed Professional Counselor and clinical leader.

  • She earned her psychology degree from Kalamazoo College while working at the University of Chicago's Orthogenic School on autism treatment research. After completing her master's in mental health counseling, she built a successful practice helping women and families through postpartum depression, elder care challenges, and life's toughest transitions.

Her 30-year career as a Licensed Professional Counselor and clinical leader proves her commitment to caring for people—and shows firsthand that economic security and mental health are two sides of the same coin. Whether advocating for the apprenticeship model as a premier, debt-free career path or fighting for local control so our municipalities can make their own decisions, her focus is always the person behind the policy.

Proven Leadership

Through her service on the Northville School Board, she proved we can support our workforce while being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.

  • In the 2025 negotiations, the ratified contract supported educators and made Northville teachers among the highest-paid in Michigan, even though Northville Public Schools despite minimum per-pupil funding. Lisa knows how to navigate tight budgets to get results, and she is ready to bring that results-first discipline to Lansing.

Now, Lisa is stepping up to represent this community in Lansing. She brings a record of public service, a lifetime of experience in mental health, and a deep understanding of the values that make Michigan strong. She’s not interested in political games — she’s running to deliver results for the people she serves. As a pro-choice Democrat, her focus is fully funding public schools, affordable mental health care, and making life better for working families, seniors, and neighbors in Northville, Plymouth, and western Livonia.
